A Visitor from Baghdad

This is so cool ! I actually got a visitor from Baghdad yesterday. And he or she wasn't the only one. I actually got visitors from all around the globe from USA, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Australia, Macau and Pakistan even ! Many people seem to be interested in the shower facilities found on Emirates Airline Airbus A380-800, or The Dugong.

Okay, at least now i know my blog is not banned in the Middle-east because someone actually told me they can't access certain blogs there. LOL !

Colony of British North Borneo Birth Certificate

I found this in my mother's closet. Thought i'll post it up here. It's a very rare piece of paper that was issued when Sabah (then known as British North Borneo) is still under British rule.

The first one belongs to my grandfather. Oh yeah, he is still alive and going strong hence the word "belongs" instead of "belonged". He was born in 1925 but only officially registered with the public registration department in 1954.

As you can see, he was born in Kuala Penyu. A small village not too far from Beaufort. His father's name is Tay Sin Tiap. A first generation migrant from Imperial China. China was still under the Machurian Qing dynasty rule when he fled Imperial China. His mother is a local Sino-Dusun named Wong Anggut.

This one belongs to my grandmother. She was born in Jesselton (now with the not so fancy name Kota Kinabalu, thanks to dumbo Harris i guess) in 1932. Her father is Chong Pon Soh, a second or third generation migrant from Imperial China. Her mother's name is Michino Hee. Her grandmother is a Japanese named Ochaiyi Shirakawa who came to Jesselton in the 18th century and eventually married with a local Sino-Native man hence the Japanese-sounding first name for her mother, or my great-grandmother.

Thanks to both my grandparents, i am accorded as Bumiputra under the Malaysian constitution and eligible to invest in Amanah Saham Bumiputra (ASB). HAHAHA

Dark Servant of Destiny

This isn't fictional. It really did happen. This is a true account of what happened to them on 17th July early in the morning. They were woken up around 2am and was told to get dressed because they were going to be moved.

The family's only son, Tsarevich Alexei was suffering from Hemophilia, a kind of disease that he inherited from his mother. He is the cousin of the current monarch of United Kingdom.

The assassination was carried out by Bolshevik secret police under Yakov Yurovsky between 6am - 8am on 17th July. According to what Yurovsky wrote in his memoirs, Alexei remained alive even after being shot repeatedly. The firing squads then tried to stab him multiple times using bayonets but nothing seemed to work. Finally, Yurovsky shot Alexei twice in the head and he fell silent.

The remains of all the family and their retainers with the exception of Alexei and one of the daughters were all found in 1991. The remains of Alexei and one of his sisters were only found 89 years later (2007).

Off I Go

Make a plan

Set a goal

Work toward it

But every now and then

Look around

Drink it in

'Cause this is it

You could be hit by a bus tomorrow

Or you could be shot tomorrow

Just Admit It ! We're Old !

Any of you remember these ? All used to be common sights when we were still young, naive and stupid. I feel so old now !

I tried to look for the Dunhill Double, Salem Cool Planet (Salem), Marlboro, Benson and Hedges, Mild Seven, Peter Stuyvesant, Winston and Perillys sponsored cigarette advertisements on TV2 around 10pm every night in the 90s but there isn't any on the web. Too bad. I can't find any American Express advertisement either. There used to be so many of them on TV2 and TV3 in the early 90s up till the mid-90s. Lai apparently, still remembers those American Express commercials aired on TV2 and TV3 late at night. Good memory you got there, mister. LOL !

Many of you might not be aware the existence of Metrovision. It was a television channel available only in the Peninsular Malaysia in the 90s and the company folded up in early 2000 around mid-January if my memory serves me correctly. Metrovision only started airing at 3.30pm every weekdays and around 1pm on the weekends.

Chinese National Speaks English

Please turn up your speaker so to fully appreciate the conversation between a Chinese national pilot for Air China with an American controller at New York John F. Kennedy Airport. The American controller sure was getting irritated ! I think he was about to shout at the poor Chinese pilot ... Enjoy !

Important Announcement

Certain things are better said in writing rather than face to face as it is deemed the best way to avoid any unnecessary heated arguments.

What i am about to say might cause dissatisfaction to some, a truly unwelcome changes just like when our brilliant government announced they were going to hike the petrol price from RM1.80/liter to RM2.80/liter in May last year. But then, this is a whole different matter and if you're an educated person then you will totally understand this.

In view of the uncertain economic trend, i will now not help you to pay for your meals or drinks. I used to be quite generous in this especially with all my best friends but then reality bites. I have started to question myself if this is doing any good at all. My parents give me their money to spend for myself and not on other people.

If we happen to hang out together next time, please do not bother to ask me if i can buy you a meal or drink as the answer is no. From now forward i will treat you to a meal or drink only when i feel there is something worth celebrating or else, we all have to pay for our own expenses. There will be strictly no more subsidizing. You might argue that you do not have a job and you might have some cash flow problem but then what makes you think i am any better ? I am too, living off my parents' paychecks.

Whenever i go out with my friends, i'll be the one to foot the bill because i want the credit card rewards points (obviously) but then even if we're going to pay by cash, i will still be the one to pay for the bill first because that is just how we do it and the rest will pay me back later. What annoys me the most is that many of them like to give discount to themselves. Most of the time they will calculate their shares themselves and then simply throw me the money but it is always RM2 - RM5 short. And that's not all, often enough i have to bear all the taxes by myself. I know you all are genius in Arithmetics but sorry to tell you that i have better faith in technology, in this case a calculator. If you want to calculate the bill yourself then please use a calculator and make sure you have also factoring in the 5% government tax and 10% service tax (if applicable). Should you find that very troublesome then just wait me to give you the numbers !

One more thing is the cost of petrol. Some of my friends do not have cars solely at their disposal, so they still need to rely on me to give them a ride whenever we go out and i will still be gladly providing you a free ride. But if there is a need to pay for parking fee, it'd be great if you are the one to pay for it because it wouldn't be fair for me to bear all the cost on my own. It is good enough that i am not asking for petrol fee as i can assure you that you will need to pay even more if you want to share the cost of petrol instead of fully absorbing the parking fee yourself.

Your understanding is much appreciated. Should you need further clarification on this issue please feel free to drop me a mail. Have a nice day !

Much Better

"Much Better" is a song written by Joe Jonas, one of the lead singers of the band, Jonas Brothers. He was previously seeing the pop-country singer, Taylor Swift.

The news is that Taylor's song titled "Forever and Always" is about Joe Jonas. As a matter of fact, she openly saying that this song is indeed about her ex in the talk show Ellen DeGeneres. So Joe Jonas too, wrote a song about Taylor Swift and it is titled "Much Better" sort of like i want to get back at you song. LOL !

During an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Swift claimed that Jonas broke up with her in a 27-second phone call. In explanation Jonas wrote on his blog (a post that has since been removed) : "I called to discuss feelings with the other person, and obviously these feelings were not well received. I did not end the phone call. Someone else ended for me. Phone calls only last as long as the person on the other end is willing to talk." Furthermore, Jonas says that he has tried to call her since the breakup, in an attempt at reconciliation, but received no response.

Anyway, here are the songs. I personally prefer the live version of the Jonas' song.

Do Not Help Your Girlfriend to Carry Her Handbag in Public Places

I have no respect for guys who help their girlfriends to carry handbags wandering inside the shopping mall or in any other pubic places. I seriously do not know what the hell are these men thinking. May be they want to show that they are caring, good gentlemen that is willing to go the extra miles but i am sorry to tell you that it doesn't work, not even for a second. As a matter of fact, they have lost all their manliness and sex appeal the moment they start carrying their girlfriends' handbags and no, this has nothing to do with the lack of confidence on why would a guy questions his own masculinity.

Carrying your girlfriend's handbag doesn't make you a gentleman. That is just plain sick and everyone will be laughing at you. If your girlfriend is making you to carry her handbag in public places then please man up and tell her you do not want to or ask her not to bring her handbag outside anymore if she doesn't want to carry it. You might also want to ask her why would she bought the handbag in the first place if she doesn't want to carry it herself ? Is your girlfriend dumb ?

Some girls will use pretty stupid excuses like they want to go to the toilet or they are going in the fitting room to try out some new clothes but hello ? There are hangers in there you know ? And how come there is no such problem when they are alone ? Who are they going to ask to help them to carry their handbags ? Super lame excuse !

Guys, if you want to show that you're a true gentleman, there are so much you can do. For instance, you can always help your girlfriend to foot the bill whenever you guys go out for breakfast/brunch/lunch/high-tea/dinner/supper, open the door(s) for her, be prudently punctual, help with her seat, give up your seat when there is no more seat available, always walk on the outside of a sidewalk and much more but carrying your girlfriend's handbag in public places is definitely not one of them. That's a big NO-NO.

See these men with handbags in public places, just how cool and handsome they look eh ? DANG !

Robert Downing Jr. looks so cool in the movie "Ironman" but not so much in this picture eh ?

The conclusion is that if you have a dick and do not suffer from erectile dysfunction, please refrain from carrying your girlfriend's handbag in public places. Be a REAL MAN !

(**Please note that i do not own any of the pictures posted above, all were found off the net)

He/She is/They are constantly watching our every moves, even when we're doing something ... erm ... something that we prefer to do it discreetly. He/She/They always know what's in our minds.
